ALEXANDRA ARKOIAN, M.ED : RESIDENT IN COUNSELING

My name is Alexandra (she/her), and I am a compassionate, open-minded, and nonjudgmental Resident in Counseling who is curious about my clients and their unique emotional, cultural, and social experiences.

I am trained in trauma-informed therapy, attachment theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and internal family systems (IFS).

As a relational therapist, I believe the connection formed within a safe relationship, including the therapeutic bond, has the power to heal wounds and facilitate personal growth.

As a therapist, I embody qualities of empathy, nurturance, curiosity, and creativity. I will appreciate the qualities that make you unique, and I facilitate a healing space to help you gain more self-awareness, develop more mindfulness skills, and explore more of your strengths, desires, and challenges. I am passionate about helping my clients find their way back to themselves through self-compassion so that they may experience a more fulfilling life.

I specialize in working with adults facing challenges related to anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, grief and loss, self-esteem, relationship distress, life transitions, and trauma. Specifically related to trauma, I have experience working with clients who have been impacted by childhood emotional neglect, attachment wounds, acculturation trauma, racial trauma, and LGBTQIA+ identity issues. I use a blend of counseling techniques to collaborate with and empower my clients, including strength-based, person-centered, and relational therapy. I have great respect and admiration for clients seeking to heal and grow.

My Story

I have always been intrigued by people's individual life experiences and the paths that have shaped them into who they are today. Through the years, this curiosity and desire to help others heal became a calling that I could no longer ignore. After years of working in project management, I returned to graduate school to embark upon a counseling career more closely aligned with my natural talents, passions, and goals.

In addition to being a therapist, I am also deeply passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion. My graduate program was focused on social justice, multiculturalism, internationalism, advocacy, and leadership in counseling. My understanding and appreciation of multiculturalism, diversity, and social justice, are integral to my role as a therapist, and I welcome clients from culturally diverse backgrounds.
