Imani Fraser

Imani Fraser, MA : Resident in Counseling

My name is Imani (they/he/she), and I am a master’s level art therapist and Resident in Counseling. I utilize art therapy, talk therapy, and play therapy in my work with clients, focusing on person-centered, existential, and multicultural theoretical approaches.

As a therapist, my goal is to honor the space you fill and work with you to understand more about yourself and how that shapes your relationships and your world.

I have experience working with individuals and groups across the lifespan, and specialize in working with children, adolescents, and young adults dealing with anxiety, depression, life transitions, identity development, and relationship management. I have a special interest in working with BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals and expanding my work with those managing medical and mental health conditions, including OCD and the spectrum of neurodiversity.

Maintaining a lens grounded in affirmation and diversity is of utmost importance to me, and I gladly welcome clients of marginalized experiences within my practice.

Additionally, I have facilitated and co-facilitated various group experiences, including celebrating and honoring the experiences of refugees, creating space for grief and loss within the military, supporting grant-based community programs through group engagement, and co-operating camps for creative expression among adolescents.

MY STORY

Imani Fraser

Born and raised in the South, I have always been interested in people and fostering connections with others. This interest has been a constant throughout my life, in the classroom, the community, and the various roles I've undertaken during my academic and professional career. Being a creative has only amplified this passion, and I take great pride in what art has done for me. I want to honor the creativity that clients bring into the space.

The intertwining of connection, thought, a passion for learning, and art led me to complete my Bachelor’s in Psychology with a Minor in Studio Art nearly a year early. I then went on to earn my Master’s in Art Therapy from the George Washington University this past spring.

Affirmation of the self and identities is valuable to me. Please use any of the pronouns listed (they/he/she), as I do not go by one singular pronoun at all times. If you are ever unsure, just ask!
