Danielle Dorfman : Mental Health Counseling Intern

My name is Danielle (she/her), and I am a Counseling Intern currently pursuing my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I aim to facilitate a space that is empathetic, inclusive and grounded—one where you can show up as your most authentic self.

My approach is client-centered, collaborative and supportive. With a Master of Fine Arts in Acting and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre, I am especially passionate about the intersection of expressive arts and mental health, using creativity to support self-understanding and healing.

My background in theater deeply shapes how I see this work. Theater, at its core, is about connection—stepping into emotions, exploring different perspectives and being seen. In many ways, counseling shares that same foundation. It’s a space where your story matters, your experiences are valued and growth happens through reflection and collaboration.

There is a quote I love: “Both soft and fierce can coexist and still be powerful”, I see this as a reminder that we don’t have to choose between different parts of ourselves in order to grow. There are layers to our stories, our choices and who we are and each part holds meaning. In my work, I support clients in exploring those layers with curiosity, sitting with emotions without judgment and building a more compassionate understanding of themselves.

My Story

After witnessing the realities of the performing arts industry, I knew I wanted to find a way to make a difference. I experienced firsthand how demanding, uncertain and emotionally exhausting that world can be and how often people are expected to push through without space to process what they’re carrying.

Over time, I realized I wanted to support people in a more meaningful and direct way, especially those navigating high-pressure environments, identity-shaping experiences or those working through significant life transitions. Therapy felt like a natural extension of the things I already value: connection, empathy and self-expression. It also reflects my belief that you don’t need to have everything figured out to begin… there is something powerful in simply starting where you are, as you are. I will meet you there, ready to listen and walk alongside you in the process.
